"I Need A Guy Who Can Treat Me Like A Woman"-Nollywood Actress
Nollywood actress, Beverly Naya in a recent interview talks
about her background, life as an actress, marriage among other things.
Background
I am Beverly Naya and was born in the United Kingdom. I am Delta Igbo from Ibuzo. My full name is Beverly Ifunanya. Growing up was quiet and fun and I had a lot of cousins. I think there are about 27 of us, so we always got together.
Becoming an actress
Acting has always been a major passion of mine. I actually started in London when I was 17. I was studying sociology and psychology in school and later switched to drama and scriptwriting. I have always been more of a creative person. That is where my heart really was.
In the United Kingdom, I did a few short films for the British Broadcasting Corporation and The Metropolitan Police. I acted in a couple of theatre productions including one by Debbie Tucker-Green, called Stoning Mary and then Psychosis and Crave.
My mother came back before I did because she had always known how much I love the craft. So, she started building contacts for me preparatory to my return. It was just about the love and passion she knows I have for the industry. She just wanted to encourage and help me as much as possible because she did not want me to be in England and probably do a nine-to-five job when I could utilize my full potential in this industry. I like the fact that I can choose what I want to do and how I want to do it.
My first role
I was a lead actress in Lancelot Imasuen’s Living in Exile, which my mother produced. It was an incentive for me to come back because before then, I was not too willing. She bankrolled it to encourage me. Obviously, after shooting that film, it was a great experience and I felt motivated to work more in Nigeria.
Challenges
It has been rocky and I will not deny that. This industry has its difficulties but for the most part, it has been worth it. Watching my brand grow, my fan base increase and watching my friends and family comment on my jobs gives joy.
Nollywood
This industry allows you to be involved in production as much as possible, whereas in the film industry in England, you could be working once a year. I prefer to be working as often as possible and building my brand.
As they say, charity begins at home. I also think we are growing. We have a lot of creative and innovative minds coming into the industry and these minds will ensure that Nollywood gets to where it should be in the next 10 to 15 years.
Success
I would say because my first movie was funded it helped to a degree but I believe most of my success can be attributed to my diligence, passion and my positive energy. I do not believe there is nothing on this earth I cannot achieve especially if I put my mind to it. God has been good to me also.
Role models
I think Joke Silva is a great role model if you want to look at someone who has achieved a lot, who is married, working hard and inspirational. I would give it to her any time, any day. She is very graceful and loves to encourage emerging talents.
Style
I do not work with a stylist. I have fashion designers that I can contact if I need something to wear. For my everyday dressing, everything comes from my wardrobe or my mother’s and I borrow mainly her accessories and bags. I like to look classy, sexy, and glamorous. I like to stand out for the right fashion reasons. I love to wear high heels and I love bags.
Marriage
Fortunately as an only child, nobody is breathing down my neck. Of course, I am looking forward to the day I will get married but God’s time is the best. First, he has to be a man, he has to be God-fearing, eloquent and brilliant.
I like it when a guy knows how to treat a woman. I do not like conceited men. I just like a guy that is down-to-earth and knows how to make a woman feel special.
Leisure
I do many things like modelling, script-writing, directing, dance and sing. I try to incorporate all of these things into my acting career. I write scripts all the time in my free time. None has been produced but I intend to produce a film either this year or next. It is a script that I hold very dear to my heart.

The truth about our private jet, by P-square
They are ever busy, taking their music around the continent where they are arguably the most popular act from Nigeria. Peter Okoye, one-half of the energetic choreographers and twin singers, P-Square, spoke to VICTOR AKANDE, Entertainment Editor, recently.
HOW do you feel that your latest single, Alingo, has been banned?
I
heard of the ban, but, honestly, reasons for the ban were not
specified. But what we have noticed and they haven’t is that when you
ban a song you only make it popular. Banning a song on Nigerian channels
doesn’t mean much because the major international channels still play
the videos.
What really was the reason behind the video?
For
a few years now P-square haven’t made a dance video and our fans have
been anticipating, so we just decided to give them that. Alingo was a
freestyle that we did even before the Invasion album; we never took it
serious until it leaked, and we got good responses. Thus, we decided to
shoot a video for it.
Did you have to take the recording abroad again like most of your works?
Surprisingly,
no! The scenes were created and shot in an abandoned warehouse close to
our home in Nigeria. It took a lot of time and energy though, because
it has been five years since we did a dance video, the last which was
Roll It.
How far have you gone with
foreign collaborations, considering that it’s the fastest way to hit the
European and American markets?
Let’s
look at it this way. We have known Akon for over six years, but we
didn’t have talks for collaboration, till he came to our concert in
London and witnessed the reception. He was trying to open Kon Life in
Africa and was looking for people to help him run it, so we teamed up in
what we call a joint venture. We are establishing an office in Nigeria
called Kon Life, because we are here representing him while he is out in
the states representing us. So, all I can say is that the process is
on. Just watch out.
Which country would you say is your biggest market in Africa?
East
Africa is the biggest encouragement, a certain place to run to at any
time. Southern Africa is a potential market; that is, it is still in the
works because we have been working there for over a year. But a
profitable market is based on an entertainer’s personal effort, because
an area can’t remain hot for us every time, so we are exploring new
grounds.
You are always on the road, how much time do you have for yourselves?
We
try as much as possible, but we don’t get as much time as we would
want. But we took the whole of January this year to rest, because last
year was a very busy year for us. However, we are back on the road
again. It is the nature of the business, and we are hoping for a 2013
that will be better than last year, because this year we are including
the tour of United States in our schedule.
What is this rumour about you guys acquiring a private jet; can you confirm it?
It’s
not true my brother. We had a deal with a private jet company, which
provides that whenever we are going to a specific place, we would be
provided a jet. That way, they always gave us their private jets to
travel with. This makes our trips easier. On the other hand, we are
close to the presidents of most African countries, so when they hear
that we are coming to their country, they usually send their private
jets to pick us wherever we are. But that is not to say we can’t acquire
our own jet. As a matter of fact, we are planning to get ours.
How
have you been able to live above the scourge of piracy, which most
artistes say is the reason they have not been able to make headway?
Piracy
affects all of us, but still P-square as a brand has managed to strive
and be successful. The truth is that we know how to make money even from
the pirates. Some of the marketers are the pirates that we are talking
about, as a result, fighting piracy starts with them. We know our worth,
so before a marketer buys our album, we make him provide the cost of
production and profit margin. Our last album took the joint effort of
three different marketers to buy.
Despite being blood brothers, are you (P-Square) likely to go your separate ways someday?
Peter
and Paul are not perfect; we quarrel like normal siblings do, but we
don’t let it affect our business. Even with Jude our brother, in
business, he is our manager and he respects us as the artistes he
manages, but when it comes to family matters, he is our elder brother
and we give him that respect. Only our late mum had the power to make us
split and she wouldn’t have done that. So, if there is to be a split,
it will not be as a result of quarrel, but on mutual ground. Group
splits are not out of place, but our blood ties keep us strong and our
background won’t even allow us split. We understand each other very
well.
Talking about your background, how was growing up with Paul like?
(Smiles)I
was very stubborn as a child, but Paul ended up paying for my
atrocities, as people often mistook him for me. We grew up doing things
together and we still do. We have our mum to thank for this. I try to
like what he likes and he does same, but in a situation whereby he feels
differently, I just let go. We have been united from birth and we still
are.
How has life been without your mother?
It’s
been hectic. We haven’t sat down to do an album because she was usually
there with us in the studio. As a pastor that she was, she used to pray
on everything we do and even pray on our album a week before it was
released. We don’t know how we will do it this time, but we hope for the
best.
After doing the same thing over a long period, do you ever feel like exploring other avenues?
For
P-square, music has become a part of us, but since we understand the
pattern and are used to it we have started looking into other means of
making money. But we also understand that making so much money and
storing it is not wise, we have decided to go into various businesses;
one of which is real estate business. This, we have been doing for a
long time. We do businesses that we can get people to run for us without
fear. We are also about to enter into oil and gas business.
They say you guys are arrogant…
Paul
and I have two different personalities, so you cannot use the attitude
of one to judge the group. I don’t expect all news about me to be
positive. Paul, for example, waits for major events before being in the
news, but I am more controversial. Our intimidating nature makes us look
arrogant, but it’s really not like that.
Your brother, Jude Okoye (Engees), was quoted as saying he won’t produce any other artiste but P-Square.
There
was an interview where he was asked that question and I think he said
it as a joke. Apart from that, Jude has a lot of businesses he’s into,
so signing artistes is not really a priority for him. He keeps his
interests on P-Square because outsiders might not understand the way he
does his things, so he doesn’t want distractions.

Official statement from Chocolate City Music regarding Jesse Jagz depature from the label
The rumour mill has been working overtime and the result is some information that has surfaced online regarding the Choc City versus Jesse Jags story. The NETNG.com website produced libellous information which made several allegations against the record label without confirming facts prior to the release.
In one allegation, it made comments that Choc City had two so-called “strong claims” against the said Artiste, one of which stated that Jesse Jags owed the label some un-paid debt and the other which claimed the label leaked that the Artiste was addicted to Marijuana. World PR Media (who recently began to handle PR activities on behalf of the label) released the following facts and forwarded the following statements on behalf of Choc City.
“Chocolate City has never released information on any owed monies by the Artiste “Jesse Jagz” and as a matter of fact is not being owed any monies by the Artiste through show performances or other means”. Furthermore, Chocolate City also states categorically that “Jesse Jagz does not have a history of Marijuana abuse neither did it or any of its staff make any allegations to that effect”.
In other parts of the defamatory release, it claimed that Jesse’s Manager “Sola Oladebo” was fed up of the Artiste but unwilling to leave him as yet.
We can officially confirm that Jesse and Sola have had a very strong relationship over the past 5 years and this relationship continues as we speak. The entertainment website also continued to paint a very untrue picture of the relationship of the Artiste and the record label by claiming Jesse’s career was dormant. The Legal and Content Manager of the label commented and confirmed that “at no time has Jesse Jagz career been dormant. Stating that Jesse Jagz career has been dormant is a gross understatement as he has since the release of Jagz of All Trades, focused on the production aspect of his career working with Brymo and Ice Prince on their respective albums as well as featuring on several songs with various artists.
His sophomore album Jagznation VOl1 will be released in 2013 as scheduled”. Furthermore, “it is untrue that Jesse Jagz has refused to appear at the Chocolate City Office when invited. At all material times Jesse and his team have always responded and communicated with Chocolate City in respect to all matters and continue to do so”.
Whilst certain issues are still under resolution, the Chief Executive Officer of the Music Group, Mr. Audu Maikori, confirms that “I never sent a summons to Jesse Jagz nor did I receive any derogatory email from Jesse Jagz refusing to attend any meetings”. What is even more ludicrous is that Audu Maikori has been in the USA on official business and as such couldn’t have summoned Jesse for a meeting when he was abroad. Jesse and Audu have and have always had a cordial and respectful relationship, a relationship that still exists till date.
Frankly we are surprised that a newspaper of such caliber as NETNG will give several conflicting stories in the same report. On one hand it states that “Attempts to reach him(Audu) and other staff at the label through emails, phone calls and text messages have been unsuccessful” Yet on the other hand they say that a “Chocolate City Staff” informed them about the above statements. For purposes of clarity, Chocolate City and its staff have not made any statements/ comments about any of the events till now.
The released statement from the Chocolate City camp ended with this encouraging note “Finally, we understand the concerns of fans and well wishers in respect the alleged Jesse Jagz “war” with Chocolate City. Our position is that there is no war within our camp. Like any relationship, there are ups and downs especially in our type of business, however, rest assured that these issues will be resolved and communicated subsequently”. “Thanks for your concern and continued support”.
I Don’t Know The Girl I Was In Bed With; Davido finally reacts to lady-in-bed photo scandal
In December 2012, the social media buzzed on a photo which featured Davido and a lady in bed. The picture caused buzz and more buzz that it trended on Twitter and Facebook. 3 months after, Davido reacts;
Davido also added that the girl in the picture apologized to him and his family. Davido Adeleke also claimed that such occurence wont happen again.
“I was asleep in bed. The girl just snuck in and (makes gesture of taking photograph) I don’t know her. I used to stay in an apartment back then and movement was kind of free. Maybe I didn’t lock the door and she just snuck in and took the pix. I have however moved to my new home where there is much tighter security.
I didn’t realise what was going on even after the pix was posted online. I traveled to Ghana immediately afterwards and I noticed on the plane people were just staring at me and I wondered why. Since it was a flight my phone was switched off and so I had no idea what was happening online. When I got to Ghana, I still got the same stare from people. I was asked by friends to switch on my phone and that was it. 300 calls from Dad, 600 calls from grandma, everyone one asking Davido what’s going on.”

D’banj Slapped His Manager Bankuli, “Working With D’Banj Is As Tough As Hell” – Insiders
Some weeks ago, Abisagboola Oluseun John aka Bankuli, the manager of Nigerian music star Dapo Oyebanjo popularly called D’banj was rumoured to have been fired by the star.
Bankuli has broken his silence on this ongoing rumour.
Below is what D’banj ex-manager said;
“D’Banj didn’t fire me. I just decided to move on. I was shocked when I read that he fired me. Whoever leaked that story was just being malicious,”
Though Bankuli didn’t reveal whether he was slapped or not, a source very close to him claims D’banj is a very tough person to work with.
Here what the source said below;
“Bankuli actually left for Paris after the Koko concert in December and D’Banj wasn’t aware of the trip to Paris to drop adlibs on Kanye’s next album. This got D’Banj angry. He slapped Bankuli and subsequently fired him,”.
But Bankuli denied having a heated argument with D’Banj. He also denied travelling to Paris to work with Kanye West without D’Banj’s consent.
Another source said Bankuli actually walked away after enduring a series of indignities from the artiste.
“Bankuli showed courage and walked away because I believe he had had enough. Working with D’Banj is as tough as hell.
Do you know that everybody that works with Baba (D’Banj) always gets tired of him and walks away? Fired him? No,” the source said. Naija Gists
Chris Brown Talks About His ‘Beating up’ Rihanna And Violent Personality
The silent Chris Brown has come out to talk about the ugly
incident that occurred between he and Rihanna as well as other issues:
Tuesday morning, the R&B singer phoned into Ryan Seacrest to talk about his current projects and surprisingly admits to his character flaws, and being arrogant and hotheaded when the infamous fight went down.
Here’s what he told Seacrest:
“People are entitled to their opinions. I can’t go around blaming. It’s all about my responsibility and me growing up as a man.
“So I think now that I’m becoming older, and trying to mature in this life under the public eye at all times, I have to focus on doing the right thing and being more of a humble individual.”
“I just tried my best to be the best man I could be over the years and just show her how remorseful and sorry I was for the incident and that time was probably the worst part of my life and being that she has and she’s a wonderful person I’m eternally grateful and thankful,” Brown said.
He also chatted about his recent altercation with a valet attendant outside a charity event over a $10 fee in
Los Angeles, saying:
“I actually gave the valet $100 before heading into the bowling alley. So when I came out, the argument started,…and I told myself I have to just shut up and be like, ‘Security go get the keys!’ I’ll be by the car.”
He then talked about being changed man:
“Being at that young age, I can tell you I was arrogant and definitely hotheaded. Everybody has a temper, but for me it was not knowing how to control it when I thought I had the world in my hands.”
Chris also spoke about his current relationship with Rihanna:
“It’s still like we’re kids. I try not to be too grown and be like, ‘Lets have candlelight dinner every night.’ I try to make sure everything is fun. It has to be fun and it has to be genuine.”

LOVE TRIANGLE: Actress Yvonne Nelson To Choose Between Ice Prince And John Dumelo
Day in, day out, actress Yvonne Nelson will stop at nothing to tickle us with her emotions. Love or hate her for that, that’s her persona.
She loves to be in a mood best described by her alone.
This week is starting on a very high note for the award winning actress cum producer who has another movie coming out early this year.
This time she isn’t talking about the movie but she is hitting it hard at one certain Ice Prince of Chocolate City in Nigeria.
Over the weekend we brought to you this, read Yvonne & John, what’s going on? , and many of her fans rained fire and brimstone on the news as been a ‘friendly gesture’, but what more can we say after the actress broke the silence by herself?
Yvonne who is currently on a movie location in New York with actor John Dumelo took to her Twitter page to dish her real boyfriend, Nigerian rapper Ice Prince.
In the twitter update yesterday, she said “Aboki (referring to Ice Prince)…. apparently John is my boyfriend he’s gonna kill you.. you don’t wanna see his aboki”.
If we choose to say, “this means nothing”, then was this piece, read Yvonne Nelson & Iyanya doing ‘kukere’ love? , false or a ‘friendly gesture’?

BlackFace Wasn’t Invited To 2Face Idibia’s Dubai Wedding
Just when we thought Blackface was the last person who won’t be invited to 2Face’s dubai wedding, the former plantashun boiz’s teammate replied when a fan asked him on twitter in a rather sad note, that he doesn’t attend events he wasn’t invited to. Whatever happened to 2Face and BlackFace’s relationship, because we remember BlackFace was present at an event held in honor of the pop star 2Face and even shared a table and they both seemed very cool and happy together.

Wizkid set to return to EME + PHOTOS from his performance in Pretoria + Partying in Johannesburg
Words making rounds are that Wizkid and his former record label EME have been able to come to resolve. Wizkid and EME had issues with sharing of monies from shows and investment but it looks EME danced to Wizkid’s music as they see that Wizkid is not ready to look back since he moved on with StarBoy Music.
Wizkid is currently in South Africa where he shot music videos, with one of them being Sexy Mama with Iyanya. He also performed in Joburg last night and there was enough time to party hard! Pix

Foray into acting.
Acting is my passion. I joined the industry seven years ago as a freelancer, I do not belong to any caucus, neither did I train under anybody in the industry. I had to do it on a part-time basis because of my schooling. I am in my final year now. My first movie was Ese Aimodi. I’ve lost count of the number of movies I have featured in till date. I have never had a challenging role because all the roles I’d played so far had been good. The only challenge I faced when I started was meeting the right people.
Description of self.I am a good and God-fearing person. I do not backbite neither do I gossip about people. In short, I am a one-minded person.
Philosophy of life.My philosophy is: Live and let’s live because what goes around will definitely come around.
Definition of style.Style is a particular way of doing, designing or producing something. My style is classy and gorgeous. I love wearing English attires.
Beauty regimen.
I do not have any beauty regimen. I do not use too heavy make-up and I make sure my hairdo is one that befits me. I make sure I do not use stuffs like gel, facial, cleanser and so on. The weather and the occasion I am going to determine my mood of dressing.
Favourite designers. I don’t have a favourite designer. Whenever I want to buy my fashion ensemble, what I look out for is colour and whether it fits me, I am not a designer freak.
Favourite colours.Green, pink and blue

Secret of beauty.Almighty God.
Pains and gains of being a celebrity. The pain is that when I go out, I spend more than is expected. While the gain is that it opens doors of opportunities for me.
Advice on how to stay young and beautiful.Women should take good care of their bodies. They should eat lots of fruits, avoid heavy food at night and should not eat when they are not hungry. They should also avoid bleaching cream because it wrinkles the body and makes the skin looks older than it should be.
To my fans.Be focused and keep your head up. Determination is a key for success, be determined and do not give up until you win.
I’ve Learnt From My Mistakes – Jackie Appiah
Background:
I am Jackie Appiah, a Ghanaian but was born in Canada in the early 80s. We moved back to Ghana in 1993. I had a very happy childhood with lots of friends.
One of the biggest actresses in Ghana
I feel blessed and favoured. God has honoured me with this precious talent. He has made me known across the globe, and I have made people laugh and cry. I am happy to be in this profession and I am happy my people appreciate the work that I do, especially my fans.
Me and Nollywood
Nigeria is like my second home. I think the acceptance was buoyed by the fact that I won the best supporting actress at Africa Movie Academy Awards. I came back the following year, got an award as the best actress in leading role and each time I came around, producers contacted me to take up roles in their movies and that was it.
First Nigerian movie
The first Nollywood movie I took part in was Sleepwalker, it was a joint collaboration between Ghana and Nigeria. It featured Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Noah, and Mercy Johnson to mention but a few.
Nollywood and Ghollywood
They are both growing in the right direction but I have noticed that life in Nollywood is more upbeat. For instance, whenever I am in Lagos, everything is moving fast! Nigerians are hasty when doing things while Ghanaians are laid back and relaxed. So, when I am in Nigeria, I double my speed and when I get back to Ghana, I relax again.
Journey into acting
I started acting at the age of 12 in my local church group. However, I became a professional actress when I starred in the TV series, Things We Do for Love. I have since evolved from that and learned a lot from everything around me including mistakes. As we grow older, a lot of things change and we mature in experience. I am a changed person, older, stronger, and wiser. My rise has been due to plenty of hard work and commitment to what I do. I always have it at the back of my mind that everything is possible. Impossibility does not exist in my dictionary. Sometimes, the best things happen when you just go with your instincts. I wouldn’t forget my team and crew, fellow actors and actresses who all contributed to where I am today. Above all, talent is a gift from God, who shows me the way and leads me to the light.
Challenges
Being in the limelight was not something I was prepared for and it is not as easy as everyone thinks. I would say fame is the most difficult thing to control because your life is no longer private. The media is constantly on your trail and people think all sorts of things about you. These are things that are beyond your control, you can’t get a hang of them. Sometimes the tales are so terrible you just want to sit in your room and cry! Sometimes these stories get to you but over time I have learnt to ignore them.
Me and Michael Bobby Obodo
He is simply a colleague and there is no truth in the allegation that we are dating. It’s false! Because people see us together does not mean we are romantically inclined. It is just a figment of some people’s imagination. Some people are up to mischief. Controversies no longer get to me. I have outgrown many things.
Marriage
That is my private live. I don’t go personal when granting interviews but I am a mother.
Fashion
I just wear anything that looks good on me. I love to experiment and I like to wear designers.
Leisure
I relax at home by watching movies I have done in the past.
